TFL (Transport for London) has confirmed that commuters will soon be able to access the internet from one of 120 Underground Tube Stations in London. The free Wi-Fi service is expected to become active before the 2012 summer Olympics commences.
Commuters will be able to access the internet while waiting at a tube station, but no access will be available during travel.
Although the service will be free of charge, it is expected that access will be limited to content such as latest news headlines, sport, entertainment and travel information. Additional functionality such as access to external sites may become available via a subscription, but this is yet to be confirmed.
The TFL as yet to announce who will be providing the service but have confirmed that the tender is in the final stages of processing.
