UK Broadband speeds are on the rise.

According to Ofcom, the average broadband speed in the UK has increased from 6.9Mbps to 9Mbps. These statistics will no doubt please the government, who are aiming for the UK to have the fastest broadband speeds in Europe by 2015.

The increase is being put down to a rise in users switching from standard ADSL connections to faster broadband services. Both Virgin Media and BT provide fibre optic broadband services with connection speeds in excess of 30Mbps.

Free network upgrades are also contributing to the average speed increase, with many customers being moved from ADSL to ADSL2+ connections. Virgin Media has also doubled the internet connection speed for the majority of its customer base.
